Peter Lloyd Jones (B.Sc. Hons, Molecular Biology; Ph.D., Pathology)



Peter Lloyd Jones is an Associate Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, and Director of the Penn-CMREF Center for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Research at The Institute for Medicine & Engineering (IME). He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association and teaches at the graduate level at the University of Pennsylvania in the Schools of Engineering, Medicine & Design.

Jones's research work focuses on the generation and analysis of dynamic 3-D tissue systems coupled to the molecular, cellular and architectural control of lung development, vascular disease, and breast cancer. His work has been published in more than 60 peer-reviewed journals and books. Jones is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including support from the National Institutes of Health, The American Heart Association, The American Institute of Architects, and the American Physiological Societies' Giles Filley Award for Excellence in Respiratory Physiology & Medicine.

Together with Jenny E. Sabin, Jones co-directs LabStudio at the IME. Also at PennDesign, he is a lecturer in Architecture, and was the 2007-08 Fellow of the Non-Linear Systems Organization. Recently, his ideas on the contemporary relationships between biology, design and architecture have been featured at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles, ACADIA 2008, The Slought Foundation for Contemporary Art & Theory in Philadelphia, and in recent editions of 306090 and VIA.
